For Sye | Writing

A poem for Sye without whom I would be incomplete.

It is the moments I catch you

Smiling to yourself

When you think I’m looking the other way

That make me love you.

It is the sweet combination

Of hope and fear

That binds our dreams together

And lets us map our journey

As though it is all in our hands.

It is the warm kisses

When you have just been drinking tea

And the cold kisses on a London New Year’s Eve

That make me love you.

It is the need to be within reaching distance of you

In case I fall apart and need you to put me back together again

Your kisses on my scars that heal me

That make me love you.

Your arms like bandages

Winding around me and holding me together

The safest place in the world now.

It is the slow dance that you teach me with no music

That I wish to dance with you always

Until the sunset of our life is near

And our dancing days are done.

It is the entwining of your dark hands with my pale fingers

The beautiful contrast of two different lives

Wrapped up together in one instant

That make me love you.

It is the moment I caught my father

Smiling to himself

When he thought we were looking the other way

That makes me love you.
