I haven’t updated my blog in so long! But this summer has been insanely difficult. We lost my gorgeous father to cancer in August. Although I’d prefer to say he actually died of pneumonia since he fought so, so hard against ‘the big C’, it would make me sad to say that it beat him. So in honour of him & other cancer victims, I will be walking 13.1 miles across London to raise money for Cancer Research UK. I’m quite scared but feeling excited & determined to get to the finish line, even if I’m the last to cross it! You can read my story & sponsor me at http://www.justgiving.com/AliceMorgan2013.
Also, I’ve managed to tick two more things off my bucket list. One of them was to help someone with cancer & hopefully I did a little with my dad even though I couldn’t save him. I know he liked our morning chats, just sitting next to him, holding his hand. We all did as much as we could to make him happy as he did for us when we were kids. As he always did for us even when we’d grown up. The other one was to run across an empty beach without my leg collapsing. When I had a metal prosthesis put in my leg, I was told by the doctors that I wouldn’t be able to dance or run again. Well, once they’d said it, I needed to prove them wrong. So my boyfriend & I went down to the beach early one morning & I decided this was a golden opportunity. He stood down by the sea while I was at the top by the wall & the only sound was the sea rolling in and an occasional seagull laughing overhead. I took a deep breath and decided that this would be the moment when I ticked another thing off my bucket list. I looked up at the sky. I looked down at my boyfriend. He had his arms open like I was a child learning to walk for the first time. And I ran. All the way to him without stumbling or falling. He caught me by the sea & we went and had a bacon butty to celebrate.
So that’s 2 things crossed off the bucket list. Still there’s plenty more living to do yet.
